Psalmus
(Ps. 4) Cum invocárem exaudívit me Deus justítiæ meæ:
(Ps. 4) When I called upon him, the God of my justice heeded me.
in tribulatióne dilatásti mihi.
In tribulation, you have enlarged me.
2. Miserére mei,
2. Have mercy on me,
et exáudi oratiónem meam.
and heed my prayer.
3. Fílii hóminum, úsquequo gravi corde?
3. Sons of men, how long will you be dull in heart,
ut quid dilígitis vanitátem et quǽritis mendácium?
so that whatever you love is in vain, and whatever you seek is false?
4. Et scitóte quóniam mirificávit Dóminus sanctum suum:
4. And know this: the Lord has made wondrous his holy one.
Dóminus exáudiet me cum clamávero ad eum.
The Lord will heed me when I cry out to him.
5. Irascímini, et nolíte peccáre:
5. Be angry, and do not be willing to sin.
quæ dícitis in córdibus vestris,
The things that you say in your hearts:
in cubílibus vestris compungímini.
be sorry for them on your beds.
6. Sacrificáte sacrifícium justítiæ,
6. Offer the sacrifice of justice,
et speráte in Dómino.
and hope in the Lord.
Multi dicunt: quis osténdit nobis bona?
Many say, “Who reveals to us what is good?
7. Signátum est super nos lumen vultus tui, Dómine:
7. The light of your countenance, Lord, has been sealed upon us.
dedísti lætítiam in corde meo.
You have given joy to my heart.
8. A fructu fruménti, vini et ólei sui
8. By the fruit of their grain, wine, and oil,
multiplicáti sunt.
they have been multiplied.
9. In pace in idípsum
9. In peace itself,
dórmiam et requiéscam;
I will sleep and I will rest.
10. Quóniam tu, Dómine, singuláriter in spe
10. For you, O Lord, have established
constituísti me.
me singularly in hope.
11. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
11. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
12. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
12. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
(Ps. 90) Qui hábitat in adjutório Altíssimi,
13. (Ps. 90) Whoever dwells with the assistance of the Most High
in protectióne Dei cæli commorábitur.
will abide in the protection of the God of heaven.
14. Dicet Dómino: Suscéptor meus es tu, et refúgium meum:
14. He will say to the Lord: You are my supporter and my refuge.
Deus meus sperábo in eum.
My God, I will hope in him.
15. Quóniam ipse liberávit me de láqueo venántium,
15. For he has freed me from the snare of those who go hunting,
et a verbo áspero.
and from the harsh word.
16. Scápulis suis obumbrábit tibi:
16. He will overshadow you with his shoulders,
et sub pennis ejus sperábis.
and you will hope under his wings.
17. Scuto circúmdabit te véritas ejus:
17. His truth will surround you with a shield.
non timébis a timóre noctúrno.
You will not be afraid: before the terror of the night.
18. A sagítta volánte in die,
18. Before the arrow flying in the day,
a negótio perambulánte in ténebris:
before the troubles that wander in the darkness,
ab incúrsu et dæmónio meridiáno.
nor of invasion and the midday demon.
19 Cadent a látere tuo mille,
19. A thousand will fall before your side
et decem míllia a dextris tuis:
and ten thousand before your right hand.
ad te autem non appropinquábit.
Yet it will not draw near you.
20. Verúmtamen óculis tuis considerábis:
20. So then, truly, you will consider with your eyes,
et retributiónem peccatórum vidébis.
and you will see the retribution of sinners.
21. Quóniam tu es, Dómine, spes mea:
21. For you, O Lord, are my hope.
Altíssimum posuísti refúgium tuum.
You have set the Most High as your refuge.
22. Non accédet ad te malum:
22. Disaster will not draw near to you,
et flagéllum non appropinquábit tabernáculo tuo.
and the scourge will not approach your tabernacle.
23. Quóniam Angelis suis mandávit de te:
23. For he has given his Angels charge over you,
ut custódiant te in ómnibus viis tuis.
so as to preserve you in all your ways.
24. In mánibus portábunt te:
24. With their hands, they will carry you,
ne forte offéndas ad lápidem pedem tuum.
lest you hurt your foot against a stone.
25. Super áspidem et basilíscum ambulábis:
25. You will walk over the asp and the king serpent,
et conculcábis leónem et dracónem.
and you will trample the lion and the dragon.
26. Quóniam in me sperávit, liberábo eum:
26. Because he has hoped in me, I will free him.
prótegam eum quóniam cognóvit nomen meum.
I will protect him because he has known my name.
27. Clamábit ad me, et ego exáudiam eum:
27. He will cry out to me, and I will heed him.
cum ipso sum in tribulatióne:
I am with him in tribulation.
erípiam eum et glorificábo eum.
I will rescue him, and I will glorify him.
28. Longitúdine diérum replébo eum:
28. I will fill him with length of days.
et osténdam illi salutáre meum.
I will fill him with length of days.
29. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
29. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
30. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
30. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
(Ps 133) Ecce nunc benedícite Dóminum,
31. (Ps. 133) Behold, bless the Lord now,
omnes servi Dómini:
all you servants of the Lord,
32. Qui statis in domo Dómini,
32. Who stand in the house of the Lord,
in átriis domus Dei nostri.
in the courts of the house of our God.
33. In nóctibus extóllite manus vestras in sancta,
33. In the nights, lift up your hands in sanctity,
et benedícite Dóminum.
and bless the Lord.
34. Benedícat te Dóminus ex Sion,
34. May the Lord, bless you from Zion.
qui fecit cælum et terram.
Who made heaven and earth.
35. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
35. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
