Hymnus
1. Auróra lucis rútilat,
1. The dawn of light glows red,
Cælum láudibus íntonat,
Heaven resounds with praise,
Mundus exsúltans júbilat,
The world exults with a loud shout,
Gemens inférnus úlulat.
Hell groans and mourns.
2. Cum Rex ille fortíssimus,
2. When the most mighty king,
Mortis confráctis víribus,
The powers of death broken,
Pede concúlcans tártara,
Crushing Hell under his feet,
Solvit a pœna míseros.
He freed the wretched from their chains.
3. Ille, qui clausus lápide
3. He, who was enclosed by a rock,
Custodítur sub mílite,
The soldiers closely guarded him,
Triúmphans pompa nóbili,
Triumphant in noble procession,
Victor surgit de fúnere.
A victor rose from the dead.
4. Solútis jam gemítibus
4. When the groans
Et inférni dolóribus,
And sorrows of death had been loosened,
Quia surréxit Dóminus,
The resplendent angel proclaim,
Respléndens clamat Angelus.
“The Lord is risen.”
5. Quǽsumus, Auctor ómnium,
5. Be to our souls forever
In hoc pascháli gáudio,
Our paschal joy, O Jesus,
Ab omni mortis ímpetu
Gather those reborn
Tuum defénde pópulum.
By grace to your victory.
6. Glória tibi, Dómine,
6. O Jesus, to you be glory,
Qui surrexísti a mórtuis,
Shining by your victory over death,
Cum Patre, et Sancto Spíritu,
With the Father and loving Spirit,
In sempitérna sǽcula.
In eternal ages.
Amen.
Amen.
