(Ps. 89) Dómine, refúgium factus es nobis
(Ps. 89) O Lord, you have been our refuge
a generatióne in generatiónem.
from generation to generation.
2. Priúsquam montes fíerent, aut formarétur terra et orbis:
2. Before the mountains became, or the land was formed along with the world:
a sǽculo et usque in sǽculum tu es, Deus.
from ages past, even to all ages, you are God.
3. Ne avértas hóminem in humilitátem:
3. And, lest man be turned aside in humiliation,
et dixísti: Convertímini, fílii hóminum.
you have said: Be converted, O sons of men.
4. Quóniam mille anni ante óculos tuos,
4. For a thousand years before your eyes
tamquam dies hestérna, quæ prætériit.
are like the days of yesterday, which have passed by.
5. Et custódia in nocte,
5. And they are like a watch of the night,
quæ pro níhilo habéntur, eórum anni erunt.
which was held for nothing: so their years shall be.
6. Mane sicut herba tránseat,
6. In the morning, he may pass away like grass;
mane flóreat, et tránseat:
in the morning, he may flower and pass away.
véspere décidat, indúret et aréscat.
In the evening, he will fall, and harden, and become dry.
7. Quia defécimus in ira tua,
7. For, at your wrath, we have withered away,
et in furóre tuo turbáti sumus.
and we have been disturbed by your fury.
8. Posuísti iniquitátes nostras in conspéctu tuo:
8. You have placed our iniquities in your sight,
sǽculum nostrum in illuminatióne vultus tui.
our age in the illumination of your countenance.
9. Quóniam omnes dies nostri defecérunt:
9. For all our days have faded away,
et in ira tua defécimus.
and at your wrath, we have fainted.
10. Anni nostri sicut aránea meditabúntur:
10. Our years will be considered to be like a spider’s web.
dies annórum nostrórum in ipsis, septuagínta anni.
The days of our years in them are seventy years.
11. Si autem in potentátibus, octogínta anni:
11. But in the powerful, they are eighty years,
et ámplius eórum, labor et dolor.
and more of these are with hardship and sorrow.
12. Quóniam supervénit mansuetúdo:
12. For mildness has overwhelmed us,
et corripiémur.
and we shall be corrected.
13. Quis novit potestátem iræ tuæ:
13. Who knows the power of your wrath?
et præ timóre tuo iram tuam dinumeráre?
And, before fear, can your wrath be numbered?
14. Déxteram tuam sic notam fac:
14. So make known your right hand,
et erudítos corde in sapiéntia.
along with men learned in heart, in wisdom.
15. Convértere, Dómine, úsquequo?
15. Return, O Lord, how long?
et deprecábilis esto super servos tuos.
And may you be persuaded on behalf of your servants.
16. Repléti sumus mane misericórdia tua:
16. We were filled in the morning with your mercy,
et exsultávimus, et delectáti sumus ómnibus diébus nostris.
and we exulted and delighted all our days.
17. Lætáti sumus pro diébus, quibus nos humiliásti:
17. We have been rejoicing, because of the days in which you humbled us,
annis, quibus vídimus mala.
because of the years in which we saw evils.
18. Réspice in servos tuos, et in ópera tua:
18. Look down upon your servants and upon their works,
et dírige fílios eórum.
and direct their sons.
19. Et sit splendor Dómini Dei nostri super nos,
19. And may the splendor of the Lord our God be upon us.
et ópera mánuum nostrárum dírige super nos:
And so, direct the works of our hands over us;
et opus mánuum nostrárum dírige.
direct even the work of our hands.
20. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
20. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
21. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
21. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Dómine, refúgium factus es nobis.
O Lord, you have been our refuge.
