Antiphona
Ego sum resurréctio et vita : qui credit in me,
I am the Resurrection and the Life.
étiam si mórtuus fúerit, vivet :
even though he has died, he shall live.
et omnis qui vivit et credit in me,
And everyone who lives and believes in me
non moriétur in ætérnum.
shall not die for eternity.
(Luc. 1: 68-79) Benedíctus Dóminus, Deus Israël:
(Luk. 1:68-79) “Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
quia visitávit, et fecit redemptiónem plebis suæ:
for he has visited and brought redemption to his people.
2. Et eréxit cornu salútis nobis:
2. He has raised up a horn for our salvation
in domo David, púeri sui.
within the house of David his servant,
3. Sicut locútus est per os sanctórum,
3. As He spoke by the mouth
qui a sǽculo sunt, prophetárum ejus:
of his holy prophets from of old,
4. Salútem ex inimícis nostris,
4. that we would be saved from our enemies
et de manu ómnium, qui odérunt nos.
and from the hand of all who hate us.
5. Ad faciéndam misericórdiam cum pátribus nostris:
5. Thus he has shown the mercy promised to our ancestors,
et memorári testaménti sui sancti.
and has remembered his holy covenant,
6. Jusjurándum, quod jurávit ad Abraham patrem nostrum,
6. the oath that he swore to our ancestor Abraham,
datúrum se nobis:
and to grant us that,
7. Ut sine timóre, de manu inimicórum nostrórum liberáti,
7. rescued from the hand of enemies,
serviámus illi.
without fear, we might worship him
8. In sanctitáte, et justítia coram ipso,
8. in holiness and righteousness
ómnibus diébus nostris.
before him all our days.
9. Et tu, puer, Prophéta Altíssimi vocáberis:
9. And you, child, will be called prophet of the Most High,
præíbis enim ante fáciem Dómini, paráre vias ejus:
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
10. Ad dandam sciéntiam salútis plebi ejus:
10. to give his people knowledge of salvation
in remissiónem peccatórum eórum:
through the forgiveness of their sins,
11. Per víscera misericórdiæ Dei nostri:
11. because of the tender mercy of our God
in quibus visitávit nos, óriens ex alto:
by which the daybreak from on high will visit us
12. Illumináre his, qui in ténebris, et in umbra mortis sedent:
12. to shine on those who sit in darkness and death’s shadow,
ad dirigéndos pedes nostros in viam pacis.
to guide our feet into the path of peace.”
13. Requiem ætérnam
13. Eternal rest
dona eis Dómine :
grant unto them, O Lord,
14. et lux perpétua
14. And let perpetual light
lúceat eis.
shine upon them.
