Lectio
Si quis non vult operári, nec mandúcet.
Do not let anyone have any food if he refuses to do any work.
Audímus enim inter vos quosdam ambuláre inordináte,
Now we hear that there are some of you who are living in idleness,
nihil operántes sed curióse agéntes;
doing no work themselves,
his autem, qui ejúsmodi sunt,
but interfering with everyone else’s.
præcípimus et obsecrámus in Dómino Jesu Christo,
In the Lord Jesus Christ, we order and call on people of this kind
ut cum quiéte operántes suum panem mandúcent.
to go on quietly working and earning the food that they eat.
Vos autem, fratres,
My brothers,
nolíte defícere benefaciéntes.
never grow tired of doing what is right.
