Hymnus
1. Solis, o Virgo, Rádiis amícta,
1. O Virgin, who shines with sun's rays surrounded,
Bis caput senis redimíta stellis,
And over whose head glows the twelve starred crown,
Luna cui præbet pédibus scabéllum,
The moon of high heaven thy footstool is made,
Inclita fulges.
Thou Queen of renown.
2. Mortis, inférni domitríxque noxæ,
2. O thou Victress over hell and dreadful death,
Assides Christo studiósa nostri,
Enthroned near Christ and ever our Mother,
Teque Regínam célebrat poténtem
Earth and the heavens sing loud of thy glory,
Terra polúsque.
Thou sovereign Queen.
3. Damna sed perstat sóboli minári
3. But evil still is menacing thy children,
Créditæ quondam tibi dirus anguis;
Confided to thee by thy crucified Son,
Mater, huc clemens ades, et malígni
O Mother, draw nigh, against the demon defend
Cóntere collum.
By crushing his head.
4. Asseclas diæ fídei tuére;
4. Guard thou the faithful, all who follow thy Son,
Tránsfugas adduc ad ovíle sacrum;
And bring back to the sheepfold of the Shepherd
Quas diu gentes tegit umbra mortis
Far wandering souls that are shadowed by death,
Undique coge.
O save every one.
5. Sóntibus mitis véniam precáre,
5. In kindness, beg mercy for all poor sinners;
Adjuva flentes, ínopes et ægros,
Also the sick, the poor, the sorrowful, aid;
Spes mica cunctis per acúta vitæ
Midst life's thorns grant light and peaceful assurance
Certa salútis.
Of our salvation.
6. Laus sit excélsæ Tríadi perénnis,
6. Praise to the Triune Godhead everlasting,
Quæ Tibi, Virgo, tríbuit corónam,
Who hath caused thee, O Virgin, to be crowned,
Atque Regínam statuítque nostram
And providently willed our queen thou shouldst be
Próvida matrem.
Also our Mother.
Amen.
Amen.
