Hymnus
1. Ætérna imágo Altíssimi,
1. Image Eternal of God Most High,
Lumen, Deus, de Lúmine,
Thou light of Light, True God, to Thee,
Tibi, Redémptor, glória,
Redeemer, laud and glory be,
Honor, potéstas régia.
And kingly reign o’er earth and sky.
2. Tu solus ante sǽcula
2. For thou alone, ere Time began,
Spes atque centrum témporum ;
Its Hope and central-point to be
Cui jure sceptrum témporum,
To rule each nation, tribe or clan,
Pater suprémum crédidit.
The Father justly granted Thee.
3. Tu flos pudícæ Vírginis,
3. O Flower of a Virgin-birth
Nostræ caput propáginis,
O Head of all on earth who dwell,
Lapis cadúcus vértice
O Stone that from the mountain fell
Ac mole terras óccupans.
And with its vastness covered earth!
4. Diro tyránno súbdita,
4. Placed under the dreadful Tyrant,
Damnáta stirps mortálium,
Through you this condemned race of mortals
Per te refrégit víncula
Breaks free of its chains
Sibíque cælum víndicat.
And claims heaven for itself.
5. Doctor, Sacérdos, Légifer,
5. Teacher, priest, law-giver,
Præfers notátum sánguine
it is written in blood on your robe,
In veste Princeps príncipum
Prince of princes
Regúmque Rex Altíssimus.
and most high king of kings.
6. Tibi voléntes súbdimur,
6. With grateful hearts your rule we bless
Qui jure cunctis ímperas :
Who justly reigns over all:
Hæc cívium beátitas
Only the truest joys happen to them
Tuis subésse légibus.
Who confesses You as King and Lord.
7. Glória tibi, Dómine,
7. To you, O Jesus, who rules over
Qui sceptra mundi témperas,
Rulers of the Earth all, be the glory gathered,
Cum Patre et Sancto Spíritu,
With the Father and the Paraclete,
In sempitérna sǽcula.
Throughout the ages forever!
Amen.
Amen.
