Antiphona
Ego sum qui sum, et consílium meum non est cum ímpiis;
I am who I am and my counsel is not with the ungodly,
sed in lege Dómini volúntas mea est, allelúia.
my will is in the law of God, alleluia.
(Ps. 1) Beátus vir, qui non ábiit in consílio impiórum,
(Ps. 1) Blessed is the man who has not followed the counsel of the impious,
et in via peccatórum non stetit,
and has not remained in the way of sinners,
et in cáthedra pestiléntiæ non sedit:
and has not sat in the chair of pestilence.
2. Sed in lege Dómini volúntas ejus,
2. But his will is with the law of the Lord,
et in lege ejus meditábitur die ac nocte.
and he will meditate on his law, day and night.
3. Et erit tamquam lignum, quod plantátum est secus decúrsus aquárum,
3. And he will be like a tree that has been planted beside running waters,
quod fructum suum dabit in témpore suo:
which will provide its fruit in its time,
4. Et fólium ejus non défluet:
4. and its leaf will not fall away,
et ómnia quæcúmque fáciet, prosperabúntur.
and all things whatsoever that he does will prosper.
5. Non sic ímpii, non sic:
5. Not so the impious, not so.
sed tamquam pulvis, quem prójicit ventus a fácie terræ.
For they are like the dust that the wind casts along the face of the earth.
6. Ideo non resúrgent ímpii in judício:
6. Therefore, the impious will not prevail again in judgment,
neque peccatóres in concílio justórum.
nor sinners in the council of the just.
7. Quóniam novit Dóminus viam justórum:
7. For the Lord knows the way of the just.
et iter impiórum períbit.
And the path of the impious will pass away.
8. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
8. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
9. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
9. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
10. (Ps. 2) Quare fremuérunt Gentes:
10. (Ps. 2) Why have the Gentiles been seething,
et pópuli meditáti sunt inánia?
and why have the people been pondering nonsense?
11. Astitérunt reges terræ, et príncipes convenérunt in unum
11. The kings of the earth have stood up, and the leaders have joined together as one,
advérsus Dóminum, et advérsus Christum ejus.
against the Lord and against his Christ:
12. Dirumpámus víncula eórum:
12. Let us shatter their chains
et projiciámus a nobis jugum ipsórum.
and cast their yoke away from us.
13. Qui hábitat in cælis, irridébit eos:
13. He who dwells in heaven will ridicule them,
et Dóminus subsannábit eos.
and the Lord will mock them.
14. Tunc loquétur ad eos in ira sua,
14. Then will he speak to them in his anger
et in furóre suo conturbábit eos.
and trouble them with his fury.
15. Ego autem constitútus sum Rex ab eo super Sion montem sanctum ejus,
15. Yet I have been appointed king by him over Zion, his holy mountain,
prǽdicans præcéptum ejus.
preaching his precepts.
16. Dóminus dixit ad me:
16. The Lord has said to me:
Fílius meus es tu, ego hódie génui te.
You are my son, this day have I begotten you.
17. Póstula a me, et dabo tibi Gentes hereditátem tuam,
17. Ask of me and I will give to you: the Gentiles for your inheritance,
et possessiónem tuam términos terræ.
and the ends of the earth for your possession.
18. Reges eos in virga férrea,
18. You will rule them with an iron rod,
et tamquam vas fíguli confrínges eos.
and you will shatter them like a potter’s vessel.
19. Et nunc, reges, intellígite:
19. And now, O kings, understand.
erudímini, qui judicátis terram.
Receive instruction, you who judge the earth.
20. Servíte Dómino in timóre:
20. Serve the Lord in fear,
et exsultáte ei cum tremóre.
and exult in him with trembling.
21. Apprehéndite disciplínam, nequándo irascátur Dóminus,
21. Embrace discipline, lest at any time the Lord might become angry,
et pereátis de via justa.
and you would perish from the way of the just.
22. Cum exárserit in brevi ira ejus:
23. Though his wrath can flare up in a short time,
beáti omnes qui confídunt in eo.
blessed are all those who trust in him.
23. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
24. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
24. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
25. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
25. (Ps. 8) Dómine, Dóminus noster,
25. (Ps. 8) O Lord, our Lord,
quam admirábile est nomen tuum in univérsa terra!
how admirable is your name throughout all the earth!
26. Quóniam eleváta est magnificéntia tua,
26. For your magnificence is elevated
super cælos.
above the heavens.
27. Ex ore infántium et lacténtium perfecísti laudem propter inimícos tuos,
27. Out of the mouths of babes and infants, you have perfected praise, because of your enemies,
ut déstruas inimícum et ultórem.
so that you may destroy the enemy and the revenger.
28. Quóniam vidébo cælos tuos, ópera digitórum tuórum:
28. For I will behold your heavens, the works of your fingers:
lunam et stellas, quæ tu fundásti.
the moon and the stars, which you have founded.
29. Quid est homo quod memor es ejus?
29. What is man, that you are mindful of him,
aut fílius hóminis, quóniam vísitas eum?
or the son of man, that you visit him?
30. Minuísti eum paulo minus ab Angelis,
30. You reduced him to a little less than the Angels;
glória et honóre coronásti eum:
you have crowned him with glory and honor,
et constituísti eum super ópera mánuum tuárum.
and you have set him over the works of your hands.
31. Omnia subjecísti sub pédibus ejus,
31. You have subjected all things under his feet,
oves et boves univérsas:
all sheep and oxen, and in addition:
ínsuper et pécora campi.
the beasts of the field,
32. Vólucres cæli, et pisces maris,
32. the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
qui perámbulant sémitas maris.
which pass through the paths of the sea.
33. Dómine, Dóminus noster,
33. O Lord, our Lord,
quam admirábile est nomen tuum in univérsa terra!
how admirable is your name throughout all the earth!
34. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
34. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
35. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
35. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
36. (Ps. 15) Consérva me, Dómine, quóniam sperávi in te:
36. (Ps. 15) Preserve me, O Lord, because I have hoped in you.
Dixi Dómino: Deus meus es tu,
I have said to the Lord:
quóniam bonórum meórum non eges.
You are my God, so you have no need of my goodness.
37. Sanctis, qui sunt in terra ejus,
37. As for the saints, who are in his land:
mirificávit omnes voluntátes meas in eis.
he has made all my desires wonderful in them.
38. Multiplicátæ sunt infirmitátes eórum:
38. Their infirmities have been multiplied;
póstea acceleravérunt.
after this, they acted more quickly.
39. Non congregábo conventícula eórum de sanguínibus,
39. I will not gather for their convocations of blood,
nec memor ero nóminum eórum per lábia mea.
nor will I remember their names with my lips.
40. Dóminus pars hereditátis meæ, et cálicis mei:
40. The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup.
tu es, qui restítues hereditátem meam mihi.
It is you who will restore my inheritance to me.
41. Funes cecidérunt mihi in præcláris:
41. The lots have fallen upon me with clarity.
étenim heréditas mea præclára est mihi.
And, indeed, my inheritance has been very clear to me.
42. Benedícam Dóminum, qui tríbuit mihi intelléctum:
42. I will bless the Lord, who has bestowed understanding upon me.
ínsuper et usque ad noctem increpuérunt me renes mei.
Moreover, my temperament has also corrected me, even through the night.
43. Providébam Dóminum in conspéctu meo semper:
43. I have made provision for the Lord always in my sight.
quóniam a dextris est mihi, ne commóvear.
For he is at my right hand, so that I may not be disturbed.
44. Propter hoc lætátum est cor meum, et exsultávit lingua mea:
44. Because of this, my heart has been joyful, and my tongue has exulted.
ínsuper et caro mea requiéscet in spe.
Moreover, even my body will rest in hope.
45. Quóniam non derelínques ánimam meam in inférno:
45. For you will not abandon my soul to Hell,
nec dabis sanctum tuum vidére corruptiónem.
nor will you allow your holy one to see corruption.
46. Notas mihi fecísti vias vitæ,
46. You have made known to me the ways of life;
adimplébis me lætítia cum vultu tuo:
you will fill me with joy by your countenance.
delectatiónes in déxtera tua usque in finem.
At your right hand are delights, even to the end.
47. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
47. At your right hand are delights, even to the end.
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
48. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
48. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
49. (Ps. 23) Dómini est terra, et plenitúdo ejus:
49. (Ps. 23) The earth and all its fullness belong to the Lord:
orbis terrárum, et univérsi qui hábitant in eo.
the whole world and all that dwells in it.
50. Quia ipse super mária fundávit eum:
50. For he has founded it upon the seas,
et super flúmina præparávit eum.
and he has prepared it upon the rivers.
51. Quis ascéndet in montem Dómini?
51. Who will ascend to the mountain of the Lord?
aut quis stabit in loco sancto ejus?
And who will stand in his holy place?
52. Innocens mánibus et mundo corde,
52. The innocent of hands and the clean of heart,
qui non accépit in vano ánimam suam,
who has not received his soul in vain,
nec jurávit in dolo próximo suo.
nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbor.
53. Hic accípiet benedictiónem a Dómino:
53. He will receive a blessing from the Lord,
et misericórdiam a Deo, salutári suo.
and mercy from God, his Savior.
54. Hæc est generátio quæréntium eum,
54. This is the generation that seeks him,
quæréntium fáciem Dei Jacob.
that seeks the face of the God of Jacob.
55. Attóllite portas, príncipes, vestras,
55. Lift up your gates, you princes,
et elevámini, portæ æternáles:
and be lifted up, eternal gates.
et introíbit Rex glóriæ.
And the King of Glory shall enter.
56. Quis est iste Rex glóriæ?
56. Who is this King of Glory?
Dóminus fortis et potens:
The Lord who is strong and powerful;
Dóminus potens in prǽlio.
the Lord powerful in battle.
57. Attóllite portas, príncipes,
57. Lift up your gates, you princes,
et elevámini, portæ æternáles:
and be lifted up, eternal gates.
et introíbit Rex glóriæ.
And the King of Glory shall enter.
58. Quis est iste Rex glóriæ?
58. Who is this King of Glory?
Dóminus virtútum ipse est Rex glóriæ.
The Lord of virtue. He himself is the King of Glory.
59. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
59. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
60. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
60. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
61. (Ps. 27) Ad te, Dómine, clamábo, Deus meus, ne síleas a me:
61. (Ps. 27) To you, Lord, I will cry out. My God, do not be silent toward me.
nequándo táceas a me,
For if you remain silent toward me,
et assimilábor descendéntibus in lacum.
I will become like those who descend into the pit.
62. Exáudi, Dómine, vocem deprecatiónis meæ dum oro ad te:
62. Hear, O Lord, the voice of my supplication, when I pray to you,
dum extóllo manus meas ad templum sanctum tuum.
when I lift up my hands toward your holy temple.
63. Ne simul trahas me cum peccatóribus:
63. Do not draw me away together with sinners;
et cum operántibus iniquitátem ne perdas me.
and let me not perish with those who work iniquity.
64. Qui loquúntur pacem cum próximo suo,
64. Who speak peacefully to their neighbor,
mala autem in córdibus eórum.
yet evils are in their hearts.
65. Da illis secúndum ópera eórum,
65. Give to them according to their works
et secúndum nequítiam adinventiónum ipsórum.
and according to the wickedness of their inventions.
66. Secúndum ópera mánuum eórum tríbue illis,
66. Assign to them according to the works of their hands.
redde retributiónem eórum ipsis.
Repay them with their own retribution.
67. Quóniam non intellexérunt ópera Dómini,
67. Since they have not understood the works of the Lord
et in ópera mánuum ejus déstrues illos,
and the works of his hands, you will destroy them,
et non ædificábis eos.
and you will not build them up.
68. Benedíctus Dóminus,
68. Blessed is the Lord,
quóniam exaudívit vocem deprecatiónis meæ.
for he has heard the voice of my supplication.
69. Dóminus adjútor meus, et protéctor meus:
69. The Lord is my helper and my protector.
in ipso sperávit cor meum et adjútus sum.
In him, my heart has hoped and I have been helped.
70. Et reflóruit caro mea:
70. And my flesh has flourished again.
et ex voluntáte mea confitébor ei.
And from my will, I shall confess to him.
71. Dóminus fortitúdo plebis suæ:
71. The Lord is the strength of his people
et protéctor salvatiónum Christi sui est.
and the protector of the salvation of his Christ.
72. Salvum fac pópulum tuum, Dómine, et bénedic hereditáti tuæ,
72. O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance,
et rege eos, et extólle illos usque in ætérnum.
and reign over them and exalt them, even unto eternity.
73. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
73. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
74. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
74. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Ego sum qui sum, et consílium meum non est cum ímpiis;
I am who I am and my counsel is not with the ungodly,
sed in lege Dómini volúntas mea est, allelúia.
my will is in the law of God, alleluia.
