Matutinum - Hymnus
14 June, 2021
Hymnus
1. Somno reféctis ártubus,
1. When we rise, refreshed with sleep,
Spreto cubíli, súrgimus:
To turn to you, and vigils keep,
Nobis, Pater, canéntibus
Then, as we sing your praises,
Adésse te depóscimus.
O Father, be you close to us.
2. Te língua primum cóncinat,
2. Let the tongue first sings of you,
Te mentis ardor ámbiat,
Then the fervor of the mind beseeches you,
Ut áctuum sequéntium
You may be the beginning of the actions
Tu, Sancte, sis exórdium.
That you, O Holy one, which will follow on this day.
3. Cedant tenébræ lúmini
3. The darkness falls to the light
Et nox diúrno síderi,
And night to the Sun, the star of day,
Ut culpa, quam nox íntulit,
That the guilt, which night bore,
Lucis labáscat múnere.
May fall before the gift of light.
4. Precámur idem súpplices
4. Also we humbly pray
Noxas ut omnes ámputes,
That you prune away all nights and that,
Et ore te canéntium
By the mouth of those who sing to you,
Laudéris in perpétuum.
You may be praised forever.
5. Præsta, Pater piíssime,
5. Grant it, O most compassionate Father,
Patríque compar Únice,
And Your Only Begotten equal to the Father,
Cum Spíritu Paráclito
Who with the Holy Spirit
Regnans per omne sǽculum.
Reign for ever and ever.
Amen.
Amen.
