Hymnus
1. Tristes erant Apóstoli
1. The apostles' hearts were full of pain
De nece sui Dómini,
for their dear Lord so lately slain:
Quem morte crudelíssima
that Lord his servants' wicked train
Servi damnárant ímpii.
with bitter scorn had dared arraign.
2. Sermóne blando Angelus
2. With gentle voice the Angel gave
Prædíxit muliéribus:
the women tidings at the grave;
In Galilǽa Dóminus
Forthwith your Master shall you see:
Vidéndus est quantócius.
He goes before to Galilee.
3. Illæ dum pergunt cóncitæ
3. And while with fear and joy they pressed
Apóstolis hoc dícere,
to tell these tidings to the rest,
Vidéntes eum vívere,
their Lord, their living Lord, they meet,
Christi tenent vestígia.
and see his form, and kiss his feet.
4. Quo ágnito, discípuli
4. The Eleven, when they hear, with speed
In Galilǽam própere
to Galilee forthwith proceed:
Pergunt vidére fáciem
that there they may behold once more
Desiderátam Dómini.
the Lord's dear face, as oft before.
5. Quǽsumus, Auctor ómnium,
5. Grant, Lord, in thee each faithful mind
In hoc pascháli gáudio:
unceasing paschal joy may find;
Ab omni mortis ímpetu
and from the death of sin set free
Tuum defénde pópulum.
souls newly born to life by you.
6. Glória tibi Dómine,
6. Glory to you, O Lord
Qui surrexísti a mórtuis,
You that hast risen from the dead
Cum Patre et Sancto Spíritu,
with the Father and the Holy Ghost
In sempitérna sǽcula.
forever and ever.
Amen.
Amen.
