Antiphona
FIli prǽbe mihi cor tuum
My son, give me thine heart
et óculi tui custódiant vias meas.
and let thine eyes observe my ways.
(Ps. 18) Cæli enárrant glóriam Dei:
(Ps. 18) The heavens describe the glory of God,
et ópera mánuum ejus annúntiat firmaméntum.
and the firmament announces the work of his hands.
2. Dies diéi erúctat verbum,
2. Day proclaims the word to day,
et nox nocti indicat scientiam.
and night to night imparts knowledge.
3. Non sunt loquélæ, neque sermónes,
3. There are no speeches or conversations,
quorum non audiántur voces eórum.
where their voices are not being heard.
4. In omnem terram exívit sonus eórum:
4. Their sound has gone forth through all the earth,
et in fines orbis terræ verba eórum.
and their words to the ends of the world.
5. In sole pósuit tabernáculum suum:
5. He has placed his tabernacle in the sun,
et ipse tamquam sponsus procédens de thálamo suo.
and he is like a bridegroom coming out of his bedroom.
6. Exsultávit ut gigas ad curréndam viam,
6. He has exulted like a giant running along the way;
a summo cælo egréssio ejus.
his departure is from the summit of heaven.
7. Et occúrsus ejus usque ad summum ejus:
7. And his course reaches all the way to its summit.
nec est qui se abscóndat a calóre ejus.
Neither is there anyone who can hide himself from his heat.
8. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
8. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
9. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
9. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
10. Lex Dómini immaculáta, convértens ánimas:
10. The law of the Lord is immaculate, converting souls.
testimónium Dómini fidéle, sapiéntiam præstans párvulis.
The testimony of the Lord is faithful, providing wisdom to little ones.
11. Justítiæ Dómini rectæ, lætificántes corda:
11. The justice of the Lord is right, rejoicing hearts.
præcéptum Dómini lúcidum illúminans óculos.
The precepts of the Lord are brilliant, enlightening the eyes.
12. Timor Dómini sanctus, pérmanens in sǽculum sǽculi:
12. The fear of the Lord is holy, enduring for all generations.
judícia Dómini vera, justificáta in semetípsa.
The judgments of the Lord are true, justified in themselves.
13. Desiderabília super aurum et lápidem pretiósum multum:
13. Desirable beyond gold and many precious stones,
et dulcióra super mel et favum.
and sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.
14. Etenim servus tuus custódit ea,
14. For, indeed, your servant keeps them,
in custodiéndis illis retribútio multa.
and in keeping them, there are many rewards.
15. Delícta quis intélligit?
15. Who can understand transgression?
ab occúltis meis munda me:
From my hidden faults, cleanse me, O Lord,
et ab aliénis parce servo tuo.
and from those of others, spare your servant.
16. Si mei non fúerint domináti, tunc immaculátus ero:
16. If they will have no dominion over me, then I will be immaculate,
et emundábor a delícto máximo.
and I will be cleansed from the greatest transgression.
17. Et erunt ut compláceant elóquia oris mei:
17. And the eloquence of my mouth will be so as to please,
et meditátio cordis mei in conspéctu tuo semper.
along with the meditation of my heart, in your sight, forever.
18. Dómine, adjútor meus,
18. O Lord, my helper
et redémptor meus.
and my redeemer.
19. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
19. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
20. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
20. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
(Ps. 19) Exáudiat te Dóminus in die tribulatiónis:
(Ps. 19) 21. May the Lord hear you in the day of tribulation.
prótegat te nomen Dei Jacob.
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
22. Mittat tibi auxílium de sancto:
22. May he send you help from the sanctuary
et de Sion tueátur te.
and watch over you from Zion.
23. Memor sit omnis sacrifícii tui:
23. May he be mindful of all your sacrifices,
et holocáustum tuum pingue fiat.
and may your burnt-offerings be fat.
24. Tríbuat tibi secúndum cor tuum:
24. May he grant to you according to your heart,
et omne consílium tuum confírmet.
and confirm all your counsels.
25. Lætábimur in salutári tuo:
25. We will rejoice in your salvation,
et in nómine Dei nostri magnificábimur.
and in the name of our God, we will be magnified.
26. Impleat Dóminus omnes petitiónes tuas:
26. May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.
nunc cognóvi quóniam salvum fecit Dóminus Christum suum.
Now I know that the Lord has saved his Christ.
27. Exáudiet illum de cælo sancto suo:
27. He will hear him from his holy heaven.
in potentátibus salus déxteræ ejus.
The salvation of his right hand is in his power.
28. Hi in cúrribus, et hi in equis:
28. Some trust in chariots, and some in horses,
nos autem in nómine Dómini, Dei nostri invocábimus.
but we will call upon the name of the Lord our God.
29. Ipsi obligáti sunt, et cecidérunt:
29. They have been bound, and they have fallen.
nos autem surréximus et erécti sumus.
But we have risen up, and we have been set upright.
30. Dómine salvum fac regem:
30. O Lord, save the king,
et exáudi nos in die, qua invocavérimus te.
and hear us on the day that we will call upon you.
31. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
31. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
32. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
32. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
FIli prǽbe mihi cor tuum
My son, give me thine heart
et óculi tui custódiant vias meas.
and let thine eyes observe my ways.
