Psalmus
(Ps. 119) Ad Dóminum cum tribulárer clamávi:
(Ps. 119) When I was in trouble, I called to the Lord;
et exaudívit me.
and he answered me.
2. Dómine, líbera ánimam meam a lábiis iníquis,
2. Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips
et a lingua dolósa.
and from the deceitful tongue.
3. Quid detur tibi, aut quid apponátur tibi
3. What shall be done to you, and what more besides,
ad linguam dolósam?
O you deceitful tongue?
4. Sagíttæ poténtis acútæ,
4. The sharpened arrows of a warrior,
cum carbónibus desolatóriis.
along with hot glowing coals.
5. Heu mihi! quia incolátus meus prolongátus est:
5. How hateful it is that I must lodge in Meshech
habitávi cum habitántibus Cedar:
and dwell among the tents of Kedar!
multum íncola fuit ánima mea.
Too long have I had to live
6. Cum his, qui odérunt pacem, eram pacíficus:
6. among the enemies of peace. I am on the side of peace,
cum loquébar illis, impugnábant me gratis.
but when I speak of it, they are for war.
7. Réquiem ætérnam
7. Eternal rest
dona eis Dómine.
grant unto them, O Lord,
8. Et lux perpétua
8. and let perpetual light
lúceat eis.
shine upon them.
9. (Ps. 120) Levávi óculos meos in montes,
9. (Ps. 120) I lift up my eyes to the hills;
unde véniet auxílium mihi.
from where is my help to come?
10. Auxílium meum a Dómino,
10. My help comes from the Lord,
qui fecit cælum et terram.
the maker of heaven and earth.
11. Non det in commotiónem pedem tuum:
11. He will not let your foot be moved
neque dormítet qui custódit te.
and he who watches over you will not fall asleep.
12. Ecce, non dormitábit neque dórmiet,
12. Behold, he who keeps watch over Israel
qui custódit Israël.
shall neither slumber nor sleep;
13. Dóminus custódit te, Dóminus protéctio tua,
13. The Lord himself watches over you;
super manum déxteram tuam.
the Lord is your shade at your right hand,
14. Per diem sol non uret te:
14. So that the sun shall not strike you by day,
neque luna per noctem.
nor the moon by night.
15. Dóminus custódit te ab omni malo:
15. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
custódiat ánimam tuam Dóminus.
it is he who shall keep you safe.
16. Dóminus custódiat intróitum tuum, et éxitum tuum:
16. The Lord shall watch over your going out and your coming in,
ex hoc nunc, et usque in sǽculum.
from this time forth for evermore.
17. Réquiem ætérnam
17. Eternal rest
dona eis Dómine.
grant unto them, O Lord,
18. Et lux perpétua
18. and let perpetual light
lúceat eis.
shine upon them.
19. (Ps. 121) Lætátus sum in his, quæ dicta sunt mihi:
19. (Ps. 121) I was glad when they said to me,
In domum Dómini íbimus.
"Let us go to the house of the Lord."
20. Stantes erant pedes nostri,
20. Now our feet are standing
in átriis tuis, Jerúsalem.
within your gates, O Jerusalem.
21. Jerúsalem, quæ ædificátur ut cívitas:
21. Jerusalem is built as a city
cujus participátio ejus in idípsum.
that is at unity with itself;
22. Illuc enim ascendérunt tribus, tribus Dómini:
22. To which the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord,
testimónium Israel ad confiténdum nómini Dómini.
the assembly of Israel, to praise the Name of the Lord
23. Quia illic sedérunt sedes in judício,
23. For there are the thrones of judgment,
sedes super domum David.
the thrones of the house of David.
24. Rogáte quæ ad pacem sunt Jerúsalem:
24. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
et abundántia diligéntibus te:
"May they prosper who love you.
25. Fiat pax in virtúte tua:
25. Peace be within your walls
et abundántia in túrribus tuis.
and quietness within your towers.
26. Propter fratres meos, et próximos meos,
26. For my brethren and companions' sake,
loquébar pacem de te:
I pray for your prosperity.
27. Propter domum Dómini, Dei nostri,
27. Because of the house of the Lord our God,
quæsívi bona tibi.
I will seek to do you good.
28. Réquiem ætérnam
28. Eternal rest
dona eis Dómine.
grant unto them, O Lord,
29. Et lux perpétua
29. and let perpetual light
lúceat eis.
shine upon them.
