Advenérunt nobis dies pæniténtiæ,
This is the time of repentance
ad rediménda peccáta,
for us to atone for our sins
ad salvándas ánimas.
and seek salvation.
(Ps. 119) Ad Dóminum cum tribulárer clamávi:
(Ps. 119) When troubled, I cried out to the Lord,
et exaudívit me.
and he heard me.
2. Dómine, líbera ánimam meam a lábiis iníquis,
2. O Lord, free my soul from lips of iniquity
et a lingua dolósa.
and from the deceitful tongue.
3. Quid detur tibi, aut quid apponátur tibi
3. What will be given to you, or what will be added to you,
ad linguam dolósam?
for a deceitful tongue?
4. Sagíttæ poténtis acútæ,
4. The sharp arrows of the powerful,
cum carbónibus desolatóriis.
along with the burning coals of desolation.
5. Heu mihi! quia incolátus meus prolongátus est:
5. Woe to me, for my sojourning has been prolonged.
habitávi cum habitántibus Cedar:
I have lived with the inhabitants of Kedar.
multum íncola fuit ánima mea.
My soul has long been a sojourner.
6. Cum his, qui odérunt pacem, eram pacíficus:
6. With those who hated peace, I was peaceful.
cum loquébar illis, impugnábant me gratis.
When I spoke to them, they fought against me without cause.
7. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
7. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
8. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
8. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
9. (Ps. 120) Levávi óculos meos in montes,
9. (Ps. 120) A Canticle in steps. I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains;
unde véniet auxílium mihi.
from thence help will come to me.
10. Auxílium meum a Dómino,
10. My help is from the Lord,
qui fecit cælum et terram.
who made heaven and earth.
11. Non det in commotiónem pedem tuum:
11. May he not allow your foot to be moved,
neque dormítet qui custódit te.
and may he not slumber, who guards you.
12. Ecce, non dormitábit neque dórmiet,
12. Behold, will neither sleep nor slumber,
qui custódit Israël.
he who guards Israel.
13. Dóminus custódit te, Dóminus protéctio tua,
13. The Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your protection,
super manum déxteram tuam.
above your right hand.
14. Per diem sol non uret te:
14. The sun will not burn you by day,
neque luna per noctem.
nor the moon by night.
15. Dóminus custódit te ab omni malo:
15. The Lord guards you from all evil.
custódiat ánimam tuam Dóminus.
May the Lord guard your soul.
16. Dóminus custódiat intróitum tuum, et éxitum tuum:
16. May the Lord guard your entrance and your exit,
ex hoc nunc, et usque in sǽculum.
from this time forward and even forever.
17. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
17. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
18. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
18. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
19. (Ps. 121) Lætátus sum in his, quæ dicta sunt mihi:
19. (Ps. 121) A Canticle in steps. I rejoiced in the things that were said to me:
In domum Dómini íbimus.
We shall go into the house of the Lord.
20. Stantes erant pedes nostri,
20. Our feet were standing
in átriis tuis, Jerúsalem.
in your courts, O Jerusalem.
21. Jerúsalem, quæ ædificátur ut cívitas:
21. Jerusalem has been built as a city,
cujus participátio ejus in idípsum.
whose participation is unto itself.
22. Illuc enim ascendérunt tribus, tribus Dómini:
22. For to that place, the tribes ascended, the tribes of the Lord:
testimónium Israel ad confiténdum nómini Dómini.
the testimony of Israel, to confess to the name of the Lord.
23. Quia illic sedérunt sedes in judício,
23. For in that place, seats have sat down in judgment,
sedes super domum David.
seats above the house of David.
24. Rogáte quæ ad pacem sunt Jerúsalem:
24. Petition for the things that are for the peace of Jerusalem,
et abundántia diligéntibus te:
and for abundance for those who love you.
25. Fiat pax in virtúte tua:
25. Let peace be in your virtue,
et abundántia in túrribus tuis.
and abundance in your towers.
26. Propter fratres meos, et próximos meos,
26. For the sake of my brothers and my neighbors,
loquébar pacem de te:
I spoke peace about you.
27. Propter domum Dómini, Dei nostri,
27. For the sake of the house of the Lord our God,
quæsívi bona tibi.
I sought good things for you.
28. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
28. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
29. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
29. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Advenérunt nobis dies pæniténtiæ,
This is the time of repentance
ad rediménda peccáta,
for us to atone for our sins
ad salvándas ánimas.
and seek salvation.
