Antiphona
Euge serve bone,
Well done, thou good servant,
in módico fidélis,
thou hast been faithful in a very little,
intra in gáudium Dómini tui.
Enter into the gladness of your lord.
(Ps. 10) In Dómino confído:
(Ps. 10) I trust in the Lord.
quómodo dícitis ánimæ meæ:
How can you say to my soul,
Tránsmigra in montem sicut passer?
Sojourn to the mountain, like a sparrow?
2. Quóniam ecce peccatóres intendérunt arcum,
2. For behold, the sinners have bent their bow.
paravérunt sagíttas suas in pháretra,
They have prepared their arrows in the quiver,
ut sagíttent in obscúro rectos corde.
so as to shoot arrows in the dark at the upright of heart.
3. Quóniam quæ perfecísti, destruxérunt:
3. For they have destroyed the things that you have completed.
justus autem quid fecit?
But what has the just one done?
4. Dóminus in templo sancto suo,
4. The Lord is in his holy temple.
Dóminus in cælo sedes ejus.
The Lord’s throne is in heaven.
5. Oculi ejus in páuperem respíciunt:
5. His eyes look upon the poor.
pálpebræ ejus intérrogant fílios hóminum.
His eyelids question the sons of men.
6. Dóminus intérrogat justum et ímpium:
6. The Lord questions the just and the impious.
qui autem díligit iniquitátem, odit ánimam suam.
Yet he who loves iniquity, hates his own soul.
7. Pluet super peccatóres láqueos:
7. He will rain down snares upon sinners.
ignis, et sulphur, et spíritus procellárum pars cálicis eórum.
Fire and brimstone and windstorms will be the portion of their cup.
8. Quóniam justus Dóminus, et justítias diléxit:
8. For the Lord is just, and he has chosen justice.
æquitátem vidit vultus ejus.
His countenance has beheld equity.
9. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
9. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
10. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
10. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
11. (Ps. 11) Salvum me fac, Dómine, quóniam defécit sanctus:
11. (Ps. 11) Save me, O Lord, because holiness has passed away,
quóniam diminútæ sunt veritátes a fíliis hóminum.
because truths have been diminished, before the sons of men.
12. Vana locúti sunt unusquísque ad próximum suum:
12. They have been speaking emptiness, each one to his neighbor;
lábia dolósa, in corde et corde locúti sunt.
they have been speaking with deceitful lips and a duplicitous heart.
13. Dispérdat Dóminus univérsa lábia dolósa,
13. May the Lord scatter all deceitful lips,
et linguam magníloquam.
along with the tongue that speaks malice.
14. Qui dixérunt: Linguam nostram magnificábimus,
14. They have said: We will magnify our tongue;
lábia nostra a nobis sunt,
our lips belong to us.
quis noster Dóminus est?
Who is our Lord?
15. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
15. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
16. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
16. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
17. Propter misériam ínopum, et gémitum páuperum,
17. Because of the misery of the destitute and the groaning of the poor,
nunc exsúrgam, dicit Dóminus.
now I will arise, says the Lord.
18. Ponam in salutári:
18. I will place him in safety.
fiduciáliter agam in eo.
I will act faithfully toward him.
19. Elóquia Dómini, elóquia casta:
19. The eloquence of the Lord is pure eloquence,
argéntum igne examinátum, probátum terræ purgátum séptuplum.
silver tested by fire, purged from the earth, refined seven times.
20. Tu, Dómine, servábis nos: et custódies nos
20. You, O Lord, will preserve us,
a generatióne hac in ætérnum.
and you will guard us from this generation into eternity.
21. In circúitu ímpii ámbulant:
21. The impious wander aimlessly.
secúndum altitúdinem tuam multiplicásti fílios hóminum.
According to your loftiness, you have multiplied the sons of men.
22. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
22. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
23. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
23. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Euge serve bone,
Well done, thou good servant,
in módico fidélis,
thou hast been faithful in a very little,
intra in gáudium Dómini tui.
Enter into the gladness of your lord.
