Antiphona
Libénter gloriábor in infirmitátibus meis,
Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities,
ut inhábitet in me virtus Chrísti.
that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
(Ps. 118, 81-104) Defécit in salutáre tuum ánima mea:
(Ps. 118, 81-104) My soul has faltered in your salvation,
et in verbum tuum supersperávi.
yet in your word, I have hoped beyond hope.
2. Defecérunt óculi mei in elóquium tuum,
2. My eyes have failed in your eloquence,
dicéntes: Quando consoláberis me?
saying, When will you console me?
3. Quia factus sum sicut uter in pruína:
3. For I have become like a wineskin in the frost.
justificatiónes tuas non sum oblítus.
I have not forgotten your justifications.
4. Quot sunt dies servi tui?
4. How many are the days of your servant?
quando fácies de persequéntibus me judícium?
When will you bring judgment against those who persecute me?
5. Narravérunt mihi iníqui fabulatiónes:
5. The iniquitous have spoken fables to me.
sed non ut lex tua.
But these are unlike your law.
6. Ómnia mandáta tua véritas:
6. All your commandments are truth.
iníque persecúti sunt me, ádjuva me.
They have been persecuting me unjustly: assist me.
7. Paulo minus consummavérunt me in terra:
7. They have nearly consumed me on earth.
ego autem non derelíqui mandáta tua.
Yet I have not forsaken your commandments.
8. Secúndum misericórdiam tuam vivífica me:
8. Revive me according to your mercy.
et custódiam testimónia oris tui.
And I will keep the testimonies of your mouth.
9. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
9. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
10. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
10. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
11. In ætérnum, Dómine,
11. O Lord, for all eternity,
verbum tuum pérmanet in cælo.
your word remains firm in heaven.
12. In generatiónem et generatiónem véritas tua:
12. Your truth is from generation to generation.
fundásti terram, et pérmanet.
You have founded the earth, and it remains firm.
13. Ordinatióne tua persevérat dies:
13. By your ordinance, the day perseveres.
quóniam ómnia sérviunt tibi.
For all things are in service to you.
14. Nisi quod lex tua meditátio mea est:
14. If your law had not been my meditation,
tunc forte periíssem in humilitáte mea.
then perhaps I would have perished in my humiliation.
15. In ætérnum non oblivíscar justificatiónes tuas:
15. I will not forget your justifications, for eternity.
quia in ipsis vivificásti me.
For by them, you have enlivened me.
16. Tuus sum ego, salvum me fac:
16. I am yours. Accomplish my salvation.
quóniam justificatiónes tuas exquisívi.
For I have inquired into your justifications.
17. Me exspectavérunt peccatóres ut pérderent me:
17. The sinners have waited for me, in order to destroy me.
testimónia tua intelléxi.
I have understood your testimonies.
18. Omnis consummatiónis vidi finem:
18.I have seen the end of the consummation of all things.
latum mandátum tuum nimis.
Your commandment is exceedingly broad.
19. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
19. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
20. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
20. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
21. Quómodo diléxi legem tuam, Dómine?
21. How have I loved your law, O Lord?
tota die meditátio mea est.
It is my meditation all day long.
22. Super inimícos meos prudéntem me fecísti mandáto tuo:
22. By your commandment, you have made me able to see far, beyond my enemies.
quia in ætérnum mihi est.
For it is with me for eternity.
23. Super omnes docéntes me intelléxi:
23. I have understood beyond all my teachers.
quia testimónia tua meditátio mea est.
For your testimonies are my meditation.
24. Super senes intelléxi:
24. I have understood beyond the elders.
quia mandáta tua quæsívi.
For I have searched your commandments.
25. Ab omni via mala prohíbui pedes meos:
25. I have prohibited my feet from every evil way,
ut custódiam verba tua.
so that I may keep your words.
26. A judíciis tuis non declinávi:
26. I have not declined from your judgments,
quia tu legem posuísti mihi.
because you have stationed a law for me.
27. Quam dúlcia fáucibus meis elóquia tua,
27. How sweet is your eloquence to my palate,
super mel ori meo!
more so than honey to my mouth!
28. A mandátis tuis intelléxi:
28. I obtained understanding by your commandments. Because of this,
proptérea odívi omnem viam iniquitátis.
I have hated every way of iniquity.
29. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
29. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
