Antiphona
Non est invéntus símilis illi,
There was not found the like to him in glory,
qui conserváret legem Excélsi.
who kept the law of the most High.
(Ps. 7) Dómine, Deus meus, in te sperávi:
(Ps. 7) O Lord, my God, in you I have hoped.
salvum me fac ex ómnibus persequéntibus me, et líbera me.
Save me from all those who persecute me, and free me:
2. Nequándo rápiat ut leo ánimam meam,
2. lest at any time, like a lion, he might seize my soul,
dum non est qui rédimat, neque qui salvum fáciat.
while there is no one to redeem me, nor any who can save.
3. Dómine, Deus meus, si feci istud,
3. O Lord, my God, if I have done this:
si est iníquitas in mánibus meis:
if there is iniquity in my hands.
4. Si réddidi retribuéntibus mihi mala,
4. If I have repaid those who rendered evils to me,
décidam mérito ab inimícis meis inánis.
may I deservedly fall away empty before my enemies:
5. Persequátur inimícus ánimam meam,
5. Let the enemy pursue my soul,
et comprehéndat, et concúlcet in terra vitam meam,
and take hold of it, and trample my life into the earth,
et glóriam meam in púlverem dedúcat.
and drag down my glory into the dust.
6. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
6. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
7. Sicut erat in principio et nunc, et semper,
7. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
8. Exsúrge, Dómine, in ira tua:
8. Rise up, Lord, in your anger.
et exaltáre in fínibus inimicórum meórum.
And be exalted to the borders of my enemies.
9. Et exsúrge, Dómine Deus meus, in præcépto quod mandásti:
9. And rise up, O Lord my God, according to the precept that you commanded,
et synagóga populórum circúmdabit te.
and a congregation of people will surround you.
10. Et propter hanc in altum regrédere:
10. And, because of this, return on high.
Dóminus júdicat pópulos.
The Lord judges the people.
11. Júdica me, Dómine, secúndum justítiam meam,
11. Judge me, O Lord, according to my justice
et secúndum innocéntiam meam super me.
and according to my innocence within me.
12. Consumétur nequítia peccatórum, et díriges justum,
12. The wickedness of sinners will be consumed, and you will direct the just:
scrutans corda et renes Deus.
the examiner of hearts and temperaments is God.
13. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
13. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
14. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
14. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
15. Justum adjutórium meum a Dómino,
15. Just is my help from the Lord,
qui salvos facit rectos corde.
who saves the upright of heart.
16. Deus judex justus, fortis, et pátiens:
16. God is a just judge, strong and patient.
numquid iráscitur per síngulos dies?
How could he be angry throughout every day?
17. Nisi convérsi fuéritis, gládium suum vibrábit:
17. Unless you will be converted, he will brandish his sword.
arcum suum teténdit, et parávit illum.
He has extended his bow and made it ready.
18. Et in eo parávit vasa mortis:
18. And with it, he has prepared instruments of death.
sagíttas suas ardéntibus effécit.
He has produced his arrows for those on fire.
19. Ecce partúriit injustítiam:
19. Behold him who has given birth to injustice:
concépit dolórem, et péperit iniquitátem.
he has conceived sorrow and has begotten iniquity.
20. Lacum apéruit, et effódit eum:
20. He has opened a pit and enlarged it.
et íncidit in fóveam quam fecit.
And he has fallen into the hole that he made.
21. Convertétur dolor ejus in caput ejus:
21. His sorrow will be turned upon his own head,
et in vérticem ipsíus iníquitas ejus descéndet.
and his iniquity will descend upon his highest point.
22. Confitébor Dómino secúndum justítiam ejus:
22. I will confess to the Lord according to his justice,
et psallam nómini Dómini altíssimi.
and I will sing a psalm to the name of the Lord Most High.
23. Glória Patri, et Fílio,
23. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
et Spirítui Sancto.
and to the Holy Spirit,
24. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper,
24. As it was in the beginning, is now,
et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
