1. Conditor alme síderum,
1. Creator of the stars of night,
Ætérna lux credéntium,
Thy people's everlasting light,
Christe, redémptor ómnium,
Jesus, Redeemer, save us all,
Exáudi preces súpplicum.
and hear thy servants when they call.
2. Qui cóndolens intéritu
2. Thou, grieving that the ancient curse
Mortis períre sǽculum,
Should doom to death a universe,
Salvásti mundum lánguidum,
Hast found the medicine, full of grace,
Donans reis remédium,
To save and heal a ruined race.
3. Vergénte mundi véspere,
3. When this world's night began to fall,
Uti sponsus de thálamo,
As goes a bridegroom from his hall,
Egréssus honestíssima
Thou earnest from Thy palace-room,
Vírginis matris cláusula.
The Virgin Mother's stainless womb.
4. Cujus forti poténtiæ
4. Before Thy boundless majesty
Genu curvántur ómnia ;
The whole creation bows the knee,
Cæléstia, terréstria
And things on high, with those on earth,
Nutu faténtur súbdita.
Beneath Thy sway subjected lie.
5. Te, deprecámur, hágie,
5. O Holy One, to Thee we pray,
Ventúre judex sæculi,
Who comes at the Judgement-day,
Consérva nos in témpore,
Protect us here from every blow,
Hostis a telo pérfidi.
Aimed at us by the crafty foe.
6. Sit, Christe, rex piíssime,
6. Laud, honor, might, and glory be
Tibi Patríque glória
To God the Father, God the Son,
Cum Spíritu Paráclito,
And Holy Spirit, Three in One.
In sempitérna sǽcula.
From age to age eternally.
