Hymnus
1. Magnæ Deus poténtiæ,
1. O God of great power,
Qui ex aquis ortum genus
Who of those born from the waters,
Partim remíttis gúrgiti,
Part you return to the depths,
Partim levas in áera.
Part you raise up into the air.
2. Demérsa lymphis ímprimens,
2. You press down those submerged in the sea
Subvécta cælis írrigans:
And raise up to the skies from those brought from below,
Ut stirpe una pródita,
In order that coming from one source
Divérsa rápiant loca:
They may fill different places.
3. Largíre cunctis sérvulis,
3. Grant to all your servants,
Quos mundat unda Sánguinis,
Whom the flow of blood has cleansed,
Nescíre lapsus críminum,
To know no fall into crime,
Nec ferre mortis tædium.
Nor to bear the weariness of death.
4. Ut culpa nullum déprimat:
4. That guilt may depress none,
Nullum levet iactántia:
Nor haughtiness exalt any,
Elísa mens ne cóncidat:
Lest the despondent mind be overcome,
Eláta mens ne córruat.
The proud mind be corrupted.
5. Præsta, Pater piíssime,
5. Most loving Father, hear our prayer,
Patríque compar Unice,
Only Son equal to the Father,
Cum Spíritu Paráclito
With the Spirit Paraclete,
Regnans per omne sǽculum.
Ruling through all time.
