1. Vírginis proles,
1. Off spring of the Virgin
opiféxque Matris,
and Mother of the Creator,
Virgo quem gessit, peperítque Virgo,
the Virgin who gave birth and remained a Virgin,
Vírginis festum
the festal triumph of a virgin
cánimus trophǽum,
we sing:
Accipe votum.

2. Hæc tua Virgo,
2. This your virgin
dúplici beáta
was twice blessed
Sorte, dum gestit frágilem domáre
by lot: while she fought
Córporis sexum,
to conquer the bodily fragility of her sex,

she triumphed also the cruelty of the world
